Improvisation, composition and a spirit of research define Panorchestra, an eclectic ensemble exploring sounds, forms and musical languages from different worlds while remaining deeply rooted in jazz tradition. The project grew out of the decade-long work of Double Cut and brings together eight musicians with distinctive musical personalities and international careers. The compositions are mainly by Tino Tracanna and Massimiliano Milesi, alongside Jimmy Giuffre’s “Train and the River”, whose music provided particular inspiration for the project. Recordings from two concerts were released by Flying Music, and the resulting album was named Best Album of 2025 in the Top Jazz critics’ poll of “Musica Jazz”. In recent years, Panorchestra has developed original projects with trumpeters Jonathan Finlayson and Steven Bernstein. A major figure in Italian jazz, Tracanna has released more than twenty albums as a leader and was a member of the ensembles of Franco D’Andrea and Paolo Fresu. He performed at the Belgrade Jazz Festival in 2014 as a member of Fresu’s quintet.
