JuMa is a young ensemble from Poland’s vibrant Tricity scene of Gdańsk, Gdynia and Sopot, led by saxophonist and composer Maksymilian Wilk. Their original music draws on free jazz, Nordic aesthetics and contemporary compositional techniques. Three albums chart the band’s rapid development, from the raw energy of live performance to increasingly open forms of musical exploration. Their 2025 appearance in the finals of the Jazz Juniors competition in Kraków led to invitations to the Belgrade Jazz Festival, Jazz Factory Festival and Budapest Music Center. The latest album, “Between Tides” (2026), explores flow, tension and the balance between structure and spontaneity. Rather than conventional themes and solo features, the music develops through simple motifs, sound gestures and subtle dialogue, remaining in constant motion between intention and intuition.
