Pianist and composer Kris Davis (Vancouver, 1980) studied classical music at the Royal Conservatory in Toronto when she became interested in jazz playing in the school orchestra. She went on to study jazz piano and composition in Toronto, Paris and New York, and moved to New York in 2001. Since 2003, she has released 23 albums as a leader or co-leader, mainly for the labels Clean Feed and Fresh Sound, and since 2016, for her Pyroclastic Records, representing various formats and contexts, from solo recitals to music for octets. Main collaborations: John Zorn, Craig Taborn, Ingrid Laubrock, Tyshawn Sorey, Tony Malaby, Tom Rainey, Bill Frisell, Trevor Dunn, John Irabagon, Marcus Gilmore, Julian Lage, Esperanza Spalding, Angelica Sanchez, Tim Berne, Don Byron, Sylvie Courvoisier, Eric Revis...

Davis first performed at the 2017 Belgrade Jazz Festival in a duo with drummer Billy Drummond. The project Diatom Ribbons that she presents this time, brought her great recognition: she combined the titles of the best jazz album of 2019 in the New York Times and the NPR Music Jazz Critics Poll, she was the best pianist in the critics' poll of DownBeat magazine, and the best pianist and composer in Jazz Journalists Association survey. On this year's lists of DownBeat magazine critics, she won as many as five high rankings: Diatom Ribbons: Live at The Village Vanguard is the second-ranked album, Diatom Ribbons is the second-ranked band, and she is the third-ranked performer (absolute category) and pianist, as well as the 7th place in the composer category. She also won one Grammy, participating in the best instrumental jazz album of 2022, New Standards Vol. 1, based on the idea of drummer Terri Lyne Carrington, a Diatom Ribbons member.
